Domain Parking Pages could be At Risk

Better Standard

Domain parking pages should still be well designed, with ads that are closely focused to the domain name. There should also be a decent standard of text and appropriate graphics. Unfortunately, a common complaint amongst Domainers is that many ads are of a poor standard or the targeted visitor approaches the domain parking pages and doesn’t find what they thought they were going to see. Applied properly, there is a valid place for the domain parking pages as a kind of ‘Quick Fix’ for users to type in the keyword that immediately comes to mind, add one of the many domain extensions to their chosen keyword and press ‘enter’. This should bring them up with a domain parking page with sufficient links, appropriate to their chosen keyword, for them to find an appropriate website and item they want.

Better Match of Ads to Domain

For this to work adequately, however, domain parking services do need to apply a modicum of care over the kinds of ads they accept for their domain parking pages. One of the best domain parking scripts currently available does seem to be D Park Pro. For those Domainers who use domain parking pages, Domain Zaar, who is behind D Park Pro, doesn’t maintain a database and operates via a shared hosting account. It also has the advantage of being fairly easy to install, doesn’t cost too much and, even on different hosting accounts you can host however many domains as you need to. Furthermore, Domainers can be assured that their domain parking pages are not totally dependent on Google Adsense: the D Park Pro script uses Amazon Ad Blocks and eBay Affiliate Ads as well to generate revenue.

Direct Navigating

I’m sure that I’m not the only person to think I know the URL of the service I want – e.g. I may be looking for coffee and type in coffee.com or I might be looking for balloons and I type in balloons.com – but I would probably find I am wrong on both counts. Does it matter? Well, actually – yes, it does! You may not be aware of this little nugget of information, or think ‘Where’s the relevancy to domain parking pages?’ – Well, hold on, because I am just about to tell you! It involves NXD data or, in other words, Non eXistent Domain data. It is all tied up with the DNS name servers attempting to resolve the IP address of the domain you typed in. If it doesn’t exist, this response fails. However, Internet Service Providers harvest any NXD data they come across and actually sell it to the highest bidder.

Domain name research companies purchase NXD data for large sums of money because it can generate them a lot of money – they register these domains to see how much money they can get from each one, assuming that each NXD domain, once registered could receive 5,000 visitors per month. In other words, people like you and me who type in a domain name on spec are, in fact, indicating the kinds of domains that are likely to make them money. That, however, is not the end of the story: this kind of covert direct navigation can actually do considerable damage to domain parking pages and the whole domain parking concept generally.
