Causes and Treatment Of Excessive Sweating

By: Nick Clipton

The first evidence of sweating sickness as a virulent disease was found in England towards the end of the 15th and the beginning of 16th century. The onset of sweating sickness was sudden and usually ended within a few hours in death. The cause of this mysterious disease is still unknown. After it killed several people in London the sweating sickness made its appearance in Ireland 7 years later.Though it did not affect infants, anyone who could survive the attack for the first 24 hours, could survive. The disease disappeared for the next 15 years and again made its appearance in 1507, but this time it was less fatal. Very soon it showed up its ugly head in many parts of Europe including Germany, Denmark and Scandinavian countries.

Fortunately it disappeared as soon as it came and by the end of 1528, there were hardly any signs of it except in Switzerland. In the modern era, excessive sweating is also sometimes referred to as sweating sickness, or sweating disease. Though the exact cause behind sweating sickness is not clearly known, it shows up during various situations like psychological stress, after a serious illness or during extreme humid temperatures.

There are anti-perspirants, botox, and surgery, which are known to stop excessive sweating. Let's cover each category.

1) Prescribed anti-perspirants: You can pick up anti-perspirants that contain aluminium chloride at any local drug store for around $15 US dollars. There is two products in particular that I recommend; Driclor and Certain Dri. They're both roll-on solutions. Which you apply to the areas you want to stop sweating at night time, just before you go to bed. Then wash off in the morning. If anti-perspirants don't work for you, then check out a book called Stop Sweating and Start Living. It provides a step-by-step method in curing your excessive sweat problem in two weeks, and has a 96% success rate. May be worth checking it out, if nothing else is working for you!

2) Botox: Another trendy solution to counter the problem of excessive sweating is Botox. This can be considered if anti-perspirants don't help you. Remember, Botox is usually injected on the infected area to ensure that sweat production does not happen there. These expensive injections would have to be taken for at least 6-10 months every year. It is also important to be aware that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have recognized Botox as an effective way to stop excessive underarm sweating. Still, it is always good to be cautious with this method. Certain patients have complained of moderate or sometimes severe pain when Botox shots were administered. For your safety, opt to discuss it with a qualified practitioner.

3) Surgery: Clinically, surgery to eliminate the problem of excessive sweating is termed as endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy or simply ETS. For this, titanium clips are inserted into the patient's underarm. This is what helps to prevent any kind of sweating. The procedure itself is quite painless yet quick. However, there are side effects so it is best to discuss these aspects with your doctor to proceed further.

There are also simple treatment that has worked for 95% of people who have applied its method. This remedy can keep your sweat problem away for the rest of your life and they guarantee it. It will be best for you to wear clothes that aren't synthetic. Opt instead for materials that are made from wool, silk or cotton. These are natural fabrics which will let air flow through easily and not enhance your sweating problem. The circulation of air will help to decrease the sweat drastically. When you are out on hot summer days, wear light-colored clothes as these tend to reflect more sunlight back and help balance your body temperature.

Try to visit a gym so that you stay fit. Body fat is a factor that can block your body's natural heat exchange. This is why people who are overweight tend to sweat much more than those who are in good shape. So get motivated to visit the gym and exercise regularly. Doing yoga regularly is one of the highly recommended tips on how to stop sweating as sweating is also linked with stress so when you relax your mind and body through regular practice of yoga, you will be more in control of the mind - body balance and this will lessen your stress related sweating to a great extent. Bathing regularly is very important but drying your whole body after a bath is even more important. If you don't dry yourself properly it can lead to the build up of bacteria on the damp areas of your body which in turn can lead to bacterial infections. So make it a point to dry yourself very well after any bath.
