Dog Grooming Products For A Healthy Dog

Key grooming products like shampoos are often overlooked by dog owners. Just because the label says "dog shampoo", they grab it off the shelf not knowing whether it is a shampoo that satisfies their dog’s particular grooming requirements.

The shampoo and other grooming products you buy will determine whether or not your beloved pet is getting the proper grooming it deserves.

What kinds of shampoos can you buy for your dog?

Allergroom® Shampoo is a hypoallergenic and moisturizing shampoo that will relieve your pet’s dry skin. It does not strip the lipid layer and will add moisture to the dog’s stratum corneum. The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis which has cells that contain keratin, a type of protein which helps prevent skin dehydration by holding water.

Allergroom® Shampoo does not contain any harmful substances like fragrances or detergents, and is available in 8-ounce or 16-ounce bottles. To use Allergroom® Shampoo, you simply apply a few drops to your dog’s coat and lather it in generously. Leave it on your dog for ten to fifteen minutes, and then rinse very well. If desired, repeat the application. You can use it once a week or at your veterinarian’s recommendation.

Allermyl® Shampoo is for both dogs and cats that have sensitive skin. It has rich emulsifiers that deeply penetrate the skin, providing relief to allergies. It is free from dyes and fragrances. It contains mild cleansing agents and fatty acids to help relieve itching and skin irritations.

To use this grooming product, shake the bottle well. Apply warm water into your dog’s coat and then pour a few drops of Allermyl® Shampoo directly into your dog’s coat, not on your hands. Massage and lather, leaving it on for five to ten minutes. You can use Allermyl® Shampoo two or three times a week or as directed by your veterinarian. Wash your hands thoroughly after use.
Lotions and rinses make great dog grooming products as well. Your dog will enjoy the soothing effects of these lotions and rinses:

ResiCHLOR® Leave-On Lotion – given to dogs (and cats) with conditions that respond to chlorhexidine treatments. It is available only upon prescription. It is an anti-microbial lotion and will not leave your pet’s coat feeling oily or greasy. It is typically applied on the dog’s coat after shampoo. Ensure that you apply it generously over the coat. Initial administration could be two to three times a week, and then as instructed by your veterinarian afterwards. You must wash your hands after applying the lotion on your dog.

Epi-Soothe® Cream Rinse is another dog grooming product that your dog will thank you for. If your dog suffers from frequent itching because of dry or sensitive skin, this oatmeal cream rinse and conditioner may help solve this probem because it is formulated to restore your dog’s natural skin oils. When your pet’s skin oils are balanced, the hair coat is easier to manage; static is also eliminated. EPI-SOOTHE Oatmeal Cream Rinse and Conditioner also helps make the coat shiny and smooth to the touch. It is available in 8-ounce, 16-ounce and 1-gallon sizes.

DOUXO® Calm Gel is a product that is ideal if your dog has a localised inflammation. It is made with NDGA which is supposed to be an antioxidant that is one hundred times more powerful than Vitamin E. It is applied once a day and acts as an antifungal and antimicrobial gel. It helps to control inflammation but does not contain any corticosteroids.

When using DOUXO® Calm Gel, hold the spray bottle about eight inches from the lesion and avoid contact with the eyes. It will also help to relieve a condition called pruritus in dogs and cats. Pruritus causes humans and animals to want to scratch because of the sensation of itching. When scratching becomes frequent, it can cause much distress and comfort. Use DOUXO® Calm Gel once a day until your pet is completely recovered.

ACTIS Omega for Dogs is another dog grooming product that helps restore a healthy skin and coat. It is a fatty acid formulation and will help prevent pruritis (the medical term for itching). It contains high doses of Vitamins A and E as well as natural antioxidants.

You can also try 3V Caps® Liquid as an effective supplement for your dog’s skin, hair and coat. It contains Vitamins A, D and E and is an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Follow your veterinarian’s feeding directions as the number of pumps to be administered will depend on the weight of your dog.
