Simple Ways to Maintain Bermuda Grass

We all know that Bermuda grass grows well on dry seasons. Bermuda grass looks good when they are well taken care of. Let us try to see how to maintain our Bermuda grasses at home.

Many people mistake Bermuda grass for a weed. Some think of it as pests that destroy plants. Truth is, bermuda grass is beatifying, used often in golf course, baseball and football fields, in parks and other recreational places. They are very appropriate in these said places as they easily grow and require minimal care.

Bermuda grass is best grown in summer. Some varieties however also grow in the cold months. Below are some tips to help your bermuda grass grow healthier and greener.

For grass lawn maintenance:
- Schedule your watering time. Watering too much may cause fungus to develop and invite unwanted insects.

- Mow the grass regularly. Lawn grass has a height of ˝ to 1˝ inches, newer seed varieties is as low as 3/8 and hybrid grass is 3/16 range. Peak growing seasons require daily mowing.

- Although mowing helps control weeds, it is also advisable to weed grass regularly as maintenance.

- Know which type of bermuda grass needs little fertilization.

- Plant the bermuda grass variety that is resistant to Pearl Scale parasite. Insecticides could not control these parasites that feed on roots.

- Try over-seeding. It will give your lawn a greener look.

For Pasture maintenance:
Most pastures are planted with hybrid Bermudas, the reason why pastures require more maintenance than other warm grasses. Even basic pastures need fertilization and added nutrients to achieve high-quality grass.

Here are some tips for pasture maintenance:
- Test your soil to see how much fertilizer will be needed. On the average, 250 to 450 lbs of fertilizer will be utilized in a year.

- Hay-cutting is recommended to maximize grass growth.

- To avoid weeds, regularly mow the grass. Burning once a year also controls weeds.

These are just some of the ways of growing and maintaining a healthier bermuda grass.
